Our Horses
Nor-Fin's Mary (Belle)
Belle, our second Norwegian Fjord, came to us in December of 2018. Belle has a condition called Ringbone. It’s an arthritic and inflammatory disease that affects the bone just above the hoof, and it causes pain and lameness. For this reason we will not ride Belle until it resolves - but she remains a very affectionate, personable girl who loves attention and carrots. With proper hoof trimming, it’s likely that the affected bone will fuse together and become pain-free. Since she’s showing some improvement, we have begun giving Belle some very light ground work. |
Fiddler's Song
Half-Lippizan, half-Arab Fiddler was donated to our program in 2014, and has found her perfect retirement job. Calm and with lovely gaits, "Fid" is a favorite with our slightly older riders. A big thank you to Mary Kennedy for her donation of our lovely flea-bitten grey friend! |
Hunka Nik’s Boy
Boy was born to the first horse on the farm, Nikki, who gave birth to this beautiful black and white Paint colt one lovely spring. Boy is gentle and good-natured, always eager for a carrot to call his own. After his year off due to Covid, Boy is lately working in the round pen and reacquainting himself with our visitors. |
Montana
Meet our newest acquisition! Montana joined us on November 3rd. He is a rescue from Texas, brought to Michigan as a blessing for us! He has been used in the past to work cattle, and this tall, sturdy and handsome blue roan Quarter Horse gelding brings us his years of experience, his intelligence, and a very calm disposition. He just finished his dentist and farrier visits, and he'll have a quiet winter while he puts on a bit more weight and heals from a hoof abscess. We think he'll be the perfect horse for all our riders. Welcome, Montana! |
Pioneer's Kiss & Tell
Shortly after being born to her beloved mother Hollywood, who also spent many years on the farm, Kiss came to Pathways, and has spent most of her life here. She is our other beautiful flea-bitten grey - a color she inherited from her mother. Her gentle Arab disposition makes Kiss the perfect horse for our intermediate riders. |
Rokida’s Nana
Nana was our first Norwegian Fjord, and we consider her our "Senior Equine Advisor." She joined us in 2010 as a purchased horse, and is beloved by all. Her small stocky stature, gentle disposition, and training under both saddle and harness has made her a superstar on the farm, where she capably handles our youngest riders. |
Meet Our Ponies
Just A Little Bit Athena
Athena, born on the farm, is named for the Greek Goddess of wisdom. Intelligent, gentle, and playful, Athena greatly enjoys learning and performing new tricks. Adopt her, and she’ll shake your hand! |
Lucky Chance Buff
Donated by the Personal Ponies program in 2000, Buff was the first pony on the farm with the sole mission of putting smiles on the faces of children and adults who meet him. Since joining he has accomplished what he has set out to do many times over, and he loves his work. Buff will try to ransack your pockets for treats, so working with him teaches us to establish boundaries! |
Sam I Am
Also donated by Personal Ponies, dapple grey Sam has a gentle disposition that makes him a favorite for many first-time participants in our programs. There is a story about the carrot “tattoo” he sports on his back leg. Come visit Sam and see if you can find it! |
Wilma
Wilma was born to a pony mother and a donkey father, thus making her the only Mule on the farm! Wilma can give her handlers a good challenge now and then. This makes her the perfect equine for teaching self-confidence and respect! |

Shadows of Mahogany
Our beautiful Arab Shadow left us in January 2022, at the age of 26. Beloved by all our visitors and volunteers, Shadow taught many how to heal, to ride, and to love. We miss him. |
